Oh I must add that I dont want anything spectacular..
no raid and stuff.. I just want to connect 4 external hard drives that are
in enclosures (that support sata of course)

Aren't you the guy who thinks Vista is crap? Why not wipe your system clean
and install Ubuntu. That way you won't need a PCI to SATA card because
with Ubuntu you won't be able to do much anyway so no need for anything else
to add to your system.

Yeah, seem to be lots from a Google search.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourc...4%2dport+eSATA

Remember to get a PCIe one, as there seem to be ones for 64-bit PCI-X slots
as well, and you are unlikely to have those slots unless you have a server,
high-end workstation or Apple PowerMac.

Wow, that took me less time then it must have you to type in a Google
search.

Hey Adam. That card is a 64-bit PCI-X one. Very unlikely that this guy has
one of those slots, if he never mentioned he wanted one like that. He most
probably needs a PCIe (PCI-E) one. (I doubt legacy PCI will have enough
bandwidth)

I've seen PCI-e and PCI-x with 4 external, but not PCI.

PCI-X cards can fit into PCI slots, usually, but work at the slower speed.
A card like this would need a lot of bandwidth.

PCI not PCI e

How slow will this be? it will be far faster than USB2 right?

I want something simple that I can plug in external hard drives so it will
work faster than USB2

This is a kinda old comptuer of a friend
it only has PCI

USB2 with 500gb drives will be slow and I was thinking of using an external
SATA drive with a PCI card...

I can use a simple PCI that has 2 internal and 2 external SATAand run cables
from inside towards outside of the box cant I?

Firewire is faster than USB2. Are you sure your PCI bus won't be a
hindrance, anyway?
