OT: router turning off wireless

I decided to buy a router given all the problems I was having with
modem compatibility issues. The only equipment I could find was
combined wireless and wired. As I have only one computer I would
ideally like to turn off the wireless signal. Is this normally
possible? The router is a Buffalo UK model.

You can look for the user guide for the model you plan on getting here:

In general, wireless routers do let you disable the wireless connection. It
may vary by brand/model whether this actually turns off the radio component
or simply sets it to not accept any connections.
