others view my status

Hi, I am using windows XP pro with Live Messenger 8.0. Everytime I am online,
but my GF can't see me while my other friend can see me online. So she is
accusing me of hiding away from her to do online chatting with other girls.
How can I explain to her that it is not me doing it. May the network causing
this problem that only she can't see me online? or am I not setting things
right? Can you help me?

I have heard this problem happen before. By any chance, do you know what
your status is when you are signin into Windows Live Messenger. If it set to
"Appear Offline", this may be what is occuring. In appear offline mode, you
can communicate to other people, but they other people wont know that you
are online. Think of it as a "Stealth" mode. Only the people you want to
talk to will know you are there, but your status will be "appear offline".
This I think is what your girlfriend is reffering to.

That's *AMAZING*!! Can you tell us how his other friend *can* see him
online while, at the same time, his girlfriend can't? I'm pretty sure that
the Live Messenger doesn't have an 'offline to some' ability.

Hey, original poster, here's what I suggest. Generally, stuff like this is
an issue with the servers and there isn't much you can do to prevent it.
Send her a screenshot to prove it. But, honestly, if she's that suspicious
of you, I'd dump her. There's obviously a trust issue there and you're
deserving of someone who doesn't think you're off cheating just because it
looks like you're offline.
