I've been running Outlook 2000 since Feb 2007. Now, all of a sudden I'm
getting a startup error referencing ntdll.dll. The version being used
in the System32 folder is Ver 6 dated Jan 2008. (I don't know when this
version was updated from the original). I have uninstalled and
re-installed Office 2000.

Outlook 2000 works only for the first opening of the program. There
after it has the error.

1. How can I get the original ntdll.dll file off the Vista installation
disk.

2. Any clue why Outlook would open OK on the first opening then turn
into a pumpkin thereafter?

3. Any suggestions for a fix?

Thanks,

How big is your .pst file? What do you do for maintenance with Outlook?
Finally, it *is* backed up, right?

The PST is 3.1mb and everything is backed up.

I only use Outlook for Contacts, ToDo, and Reminders. I use TB for
email. So there is minimal maintenance.

Thanks,

Have you run scanPST.exe? Use search to find it, right click on it and
create a shortcut to it on the desktop. Double click on the short cut
and run it with Outlook CLOSED. If it says it needs to repair, repair it
and then run it again to make sure it got repaired. If that doesn't
work, you might want to consider adding Lightning to TB which is a
calendar and task add-on.

In addition to the above, when Outlook won't open, check the Task
Manager to see if it really closed.

Many thanks for your suggestions. I'll try it and advise. I'll also
download Lightning.

SCANPST was not successful. It stated there were 'minor
inconsistencies' and I had it correct them. Same problem occurred when
trying to load.

Lightning installed and working. Now if only it had a CONTACTs section
for addresses, phone numbers, etc.

The third icon from the top left looks like a book (T-Bird, not
Lightning). Click on it. It's the address book. You can import the
contacts from Outlook. Enjoy :-)

Did it offer to correct them? What happens if you run it again after
compacting? You know how to compact with Outlook, right?

Misread, sorry. Was the correction successful? If you run scanpst again
are there no errors? If so, and if not, run it again.
