Outlook 2002

The latest Windows automatic update caused Outlook e-mail to stop working.
Send and Receive now gives "The Operation Failed"
Going to E-mail Account Option gives "The Operation Failed
due to a registry or installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again."

Any idea on how to manually fix this? Reinstalling Outlook will probably
just restart the cycle.
