Outlook 2002 on Vista Business

Hi all.

I installed office XP on vista business (logged in as domain admin, UAC
turned off) and configured the exchange email profile with no problem.
When I put in the exchange server name and the user name, it even auto
resolved (that indicates to me either some communication with the 2007
exchange server or the 2003 AD). But when I try to open outlook, it
gives the following message:

"Cannot start Microsoft outlook. The information store could not be
opened."

I am also able to ping both servers from the vista machine. It is
joined to the 2003 domain. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The thing is Outlook 2002 is not certified to run on Windows Vista and there
are well known problems associated with it running on Vista. My only
recommendation would be to ensure that Service Pack 3 for Office XP is
installed in addition to the latest updates.

Otherwise, purchase a more recent release of Outlook such as versions 2007
or 2003 (with SP3) which work well on Vista.

I know it's not supported officially, but according to anyone I talk to
it opens and works with exception of the passwords issue (but mabey this
is only for pop3 accounts). Thanks for the reply. It already has sp3
installed. It has office 2007 trial installed on the machine, but I
uninstalled it and ran a repair and reboot of office xp and still no
luck (but at least that gets outlook to open, just can't access any
email). I also tested accessing an exchange account from a 2000
exchange server, and I get the same message, "The information store
could not be opened". There is probably no hope at this point, but if
anyone else has any suggestions, I'm willing to try almost anything at
this point. Thanks.

Did you create a new mail profile after uninstalling Office 2007 and
installing 2000?

Hi Brian. Thanks for the response. I did take your suggestion and try
it but it did not fix the problem (still get the message "The
information store could not be opened"). I really appreciate your help,
and I'm open to any other suggestions you may have.

One other question, is there anyone who may be able to verify if OL 2002
only prompts for passwords with pop3 accounts? Maybe it behaves
differently trying to connect to an exchange server?

Depending on some factors, Outlook 2002 may prompt for Exchange account
password as well.

Do you think it could do this with a 2007 exchange server? What would
this involve? Changing settings on the exchange server? Thanks!

Depending on what type of authentication you use, if your PC is a member of
the same domain as the Exchange server, no prompt will be needed, since
Exchange will use the same AD for authentication that your PC uses and trust
the Windows credentials.

Yes, the PC is in the same domain. I was just hoping mabey if we could
get it to prompt for password, maybe autoIT would work to auto enter the
password. Thanks for helping me understand.
