Outlook 2003 - Password Retention

My Outlook 2003 operating with Windows XP SP3 will not retain my email server
password for receiving email. All email password save boxes are checked but
on every receiver email ping (every 5 minutes) my password is requested.
Annoying! Once password entered email is received. Problem occurred
"overnight" .
