Outlook 2007 opens instead of Windows Mail when e-mail address is clicked on?

We do all our mail and newsgroup work using Windows Mail, but when we click
on a email address receieved in a message or at a site (example:
) Outlook 2007 opens and tries to take over instead of
Windows Mail. We never use nor setup Outlook 2007 so I'm not sure why this
is acting as the default mail service.
Can someone please tell me how I can set our computer to open Windows Mail
when we click on a email address?
Thank You so much in advance.

You're in the Windows Live Mail newsgroup. You want the Windows Mail
newsgroup.

Windows Vista Mail Newsgroup.
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...ows.vista.mail

However, the problem is that whenever you get an update for Outlook, it
will make Outlook the default e-mail client. You may be able to reset it
in WinMail: Tools | Options | General. If not, you will need to do it in
the Control Panel. I don't have Vista, so I can't give you the exact
location.

Read this. It is for Outlook Express, but the information should be the
same for WinMail.

Set Windows Mail as your default email client(Control Panel/Default Programs)

Fyi...this is the Windows Live Mail newsgroup, not Windows Mail.

Windows Mail newsgroups are here

Because if you have Office 2007, every time you install Office updates it
makes Outlook the default mail client.
If you don't use Outlook, just uninstall it. Problem solved.

I uninstalled Outlook 2007 plus I went to "Associate a File or Protocol with
a specific program" and set Windows Mail to be the Current Default for
"mapimail" but now when I click on a address I get the Red X message saying
This file does not have a program accociated with it for performing this
action.. Not sure what else I can do, there isn't any other mail file
associations in the "Associate a File or Protocol with a specific program"
setting?

Sounds like your Windows Mail doesn't have all its defaults.
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Windows
Mail". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.
If no improvement, the following procedure will rewrite the default
protocol assignments in the registry:
Open the Default Programs applet, then click on "Set program
access and computer defaults." Expand the Custom selection, and
select Windows Mail. Click OK.

If you own a licensed copy of Outlook 2007 then why would you want to use WM
anyway ???

Most likely pre-installed.
Some don't prefer the complexity of Outlook and use another more comfortable email client.
As far as I know..owning a license for Outlook does not make its use mandatory.

Pre-installed or otherwise is irrelevant. Outlook is superior to WM, but it
is not more complex for normal mail handling than WM - same account setup
procedure, viewed mail organization same, not mandatory to use any other
"advanced" features. I never said he was required to use it since he owned
it, but with so many WM issues, one has to wonder why anyone would prefer it
over Outlook . . . . . .

I would use the terminology "more fully featured" rather than "superior".
If one's email needs are simple, then WM is superior. It is definitely quicker
than Outlook and has more detailed error messages when something
goes wrong.
