Hi!

I installed Windows Service Pack 2.0 two weeks ago. Since then, Microsoft
Outlook Express can't connect to the POP3 mailserver anymore. It says that
the server could not have been found - error no. 0x800ccc0d.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Everything used to work really well before. The mailserver it should connect
to is my own server, and other users installed on it don't have any problem
at all. I did not change any server settings.

Thank you very much for any help in advance. Best regards from Switzerland

Yours,

Thomas/Bubble

service pack 2 causes more problems than it is worth, its pop up blockers
cause all kinds of problems, go to control panel, shut off service pack 2
then click start all progams accessories system tools system restore
restore to a time when pops 3 did work. if this works go microsoft update
and ask for them to send you a free sp2 cd if you dont have one, its saves
a lot of time installing. then delete sp2 and reinstall from cd this is
what I did J D

It's pop-up blockers haven't *caused* any problems unless you didn't learn
to use the feature and needed the pop-ups.
*grin*

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

<paste>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
</paste>

Hi everyone! Thanks a lot for your support - everything's fine again. I've
looked up all the information you suggested, tried, and failed... In the end,
I got rid of Norton Internet Security 2005 as this seemed to be the problem
and installed Norton Internet Security 2006. Now, everything is working again.

Thank you again, and best regards from Switzerland.

Yours,

Thomas

Hi,

I am ready to put the hammer out to MS Outlook, Compaq, HP, Norton, Verizon
my DSL provider and everyone else in between.

Outlook does not send or receive emails, so I call Verizon, who says the
problem is Outlook and they don't provide support for Outlook.
So I call Outlook and they say the problem is Norton anti virus and they
don't support Norton. They ask me to remove Norton and install Ms Live One,
Microsoft antivirus.
Email still does not work through Outlook.

6 months and countless hours later, I am so angry that i call everyone the
worst names even before I talk to them because you first have to wait
interminable hours through that stupid standard pre-progammed message, then
one someone comes on it is a first level tech support person who knows
nothing, then you are told there are no supervisors available, then you want
them to be damned in hell forever, the whole shitty bunch of computer
sellers. Why the hell do they sell the computer with Outlook, Norton and
other programs and not support it? Beats me. Sounds like we are all taken for
a ride.

Now Outlook tells ,me I have expired my free 5 tech support calls and now I
have to pay for the stupid program which never worked in the first place and
each time you call it is used as one 'ticket'.
I think next time I would rather go to the devil than buy something from
Microsoft-at least with the devil you know what you are getting up front.
With Microsoft, they are the devil in disguise-sell you s---t and then they
want you to pay to fix problems it had in the first place.

I would hang Bill Gates if I saw the thief!

You should be posting in Outlook newsgroups. Your problem is not related to
windows update.
