I have an ical file containing about 365 all day events. This file is
imported into Outlook and the data all shows on the Outlook calendar. Up to Mobile 5, this data would sync just fine. With mobile 6, the data seems to be ignored by ActiveSync except for events which have been manually edited within Outlook. Although the data impoorts into Outlook fine, I have pasted in below the first few lines of the data file (one event) in case we have omitted something that mobile 6 requires. To put it broadly: Why doesn't this data sync? Here is the snippet: BEGIN:VCALENDAR PRODID:-//Resource Publications, Inc.//ProductName//EN VERSION:2.0 METHOD:PUBLISH BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20071202 DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20071203 TRANSP:TRANSPARENT SEQUENCE:0 UID:http://www.rpinet.com DTSTAMP:20071202T000000Z CATEGORIES:ORDO2008 DESCRIPTION:1st Sunday of Advent\nSunday\nviolet\nIsaiah 2:1-5/Psalm 122:1-2, 3-4, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9/Romans 13:11-14/Matthew 24:37-44\nHours: Begin Psalter I, Advent Week 1 SUMMARY:1st Sun Advent PRIORITY:5 CLASS:PUBLIC END:VEVENT |

Hi,

Thank you for responding to my post. Your response triggers additional
questions in my mind. We have been offering this calendar data since 2004, and have not had the trouble you describe with Windows Mobile 5 and earlier. With Mobile 5 we had to elect an option to get all of the events to sync. Evidently that option is no longer offered with Mobile 6. It is puzzling to think why Microsoft would presume to filter data while syncing. How is that adding value to the customer's experience? Hopefully, Microsoft will change its activeSync software to at least let the user decide whether to sync imported data. I appreciate your offer to take a look at the snippet I provided. I can see from your documentation that more will be required, but handling the 365 single event files that you suggest will guarantee a poor user experience. It seems to me that this is what importing is all about. "Raj Pillai" wrote: > Hi, > > Have documented something similar long ago. Hi,
Sorry but the snippet doesn't seem to be a valid iCalendar file. It might be incomplete and therefore I am unable to import it. In the meanwhile I tried testing with another valid iCalendar file and it imported alright and synchronized correctly to the device. Which version of MS Outlook are you using? If possible, mail me your iCalendar file and I will take a closer look. Could you explain the following bit in greater detail: > With Mobile 5 we had to elect an option to get all of the events to sync. > Evidently that option is no longer offered with Mobile 6. -- Regards, Raj Pillai Microsoft MVP - Mobile Devices http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj "wildbill" <> wrote in message news:F776B1E6-0958-4C1F-B9EA-... > Thank you for responding to my post. Raj,
Thank you for your persistence and thoroughness in pursuing my question, which has to do with mobile 6 not syncing imported events when syncing calendar events with Outlook.. I have Outlook 2000, but I have about 500 "users" who have various versions of Outlook. I have not yet encountered a version of Outlook that will not import the data. As you requested, I have sent this same info to you via email to which I attached the entire ics file. I believe the snippet failed because I merely gave you the first several lines of the file, and the necessary last line (END:VCALENDAR) was missing, so that the snippet did not constitute a complete ical file.. Sorry. As I have mentioned elsewhere, the sync function was ok in earlier versions (mobile 4 and 5), although it became more complex with mobile 5, which required this series of steps: With the active sync box open, select tools, select options, select calendar, click on settings and select synchronize all tasks. Or, at this same level, click on task sync settings, and then click on synchronize all tasks. "Raj Pillai" wrote: > Hi, > > Sorry but the snippet doesn't seem to be a valid iCalendar file. Hi,
I checked the iCalendar file you sent to me and yes I too experience the same issue. The older devices were able to sync the appointments correctly but WM6.0 for some reason gave it a skip! If I edit the file such that only one appointment is there and import, it works fine. So not sure why its happening when import happens for the remaining but in the interim you may distribute the same appointments in a .pst file for import purpose. The appointments sync fine when imported via the pst file format. If you are not clear how to go about doing this, let me know and will help you with the instructions. Thanks for your patience! ![]() -- Regards, Raj Pillai Microsoft MVP - Mobile Devices http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj "wildbill" <> wrote in message news:46846D52-B53F-4D3D-88D0-... > Raj, > Thank you for your persistence and thoroughness in pursuing my question, > which has to do with mobile 6 not syncing imported events when syncing > calendar events with Outlook.. Thank you for the helpful response. ALthough I wish you got a different
result than I did, I am somewhat relieved to learn that there is a possible workaround. Yes, please, if you can tell me what a pst format is and how I can learn to use it. I have never heard of it. Hi,
It involves a bit of work but it synchronized all the appointments into the WM 6.0 device. What you need to do is create a new Calendar folder and move all the appointments that are in your main calendar to this new Calendar folder. To do this quickly follow these steps: 1. Open Outlook and goto Calendar. 2. Right-click the Calendar folder and create a new folder of Calendar Type. 3. Click View -> Arrange by -> Current View -> By Category (This will list all your appointments category wise) 4. Select All (Press Ctrl + A) and drag the selected items into your new folder. Once this is done, import your appointments via the iCalendar file and you will find the appointments in the main Calendar. Next Click File -> Import and Export -> Select Export to a file-> Select "Personal folder file (.pst) -> and select the Calendar folder (do not tick the option to include sub folders) and follow the prompts to create the .pst file. This pst file will contain only the iCalendar appointments and can be distributed for Import into Outlook just in the manner you were distributing the iCalendar file. Once the pst file is created, you can delete all the appointments in your main Calendar in Outlook (if you wish), and move the other appointments from your temp folder using the steps given earlier. -- Regards, Raj Pillai Microsoft MVP - Mobile Devices http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj "wildbill" <> wrote in message news:727E84AA-5117-4DC2-AFBE-... > Thank you for the helpful response.
