Outlook express attachements

I applied Windows update yesterday (Wednesday, July 28,
2004) which included the following

Critical Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1
(KB831167)
Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express 6 SP1
(KB823353)

After that, I havent been able to access any of my
attachements which have come by email. Nor am I able to
save them. Not only are the mails in my Hotmail inbox
having such problems, but even the older mails which I
have downloaded to my local drive doesnt allow me to
open/save the attachment.

Please help, because I have a huge amount of information
which might be lost if I cant access them.
