Hi,
Outlook express now freezes and when I open it to read mail. Last
(4-11-06)night there was an important auto update that auto installed and
re-booted the computer. I am using XP Pro and have always let the
auto-update do it's business on the "nightly - auto" mode. I am not
'learned' on all the stuff I see in the psts and DO NOT WANT TO BE. Is there
anything you can do to help??? YOUR update was the only thing this computer
did between yesterday and today, and the email program worked fine yesterday.
Hokey smokes...

klaatu,

Suggest you uninstall KB911567 from Add/Remove Programs in the Control
Panel. Then download the update from here for XP SP2:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...E-FB422A4E8096
or, here for XP SP1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...3-6438CAD081DB
Close Internet Explorer *before* installing the update.
Temporarily disable the installed Antivirus program.
Install the update now.
Reenable the AV.
Did that resolve the issue ?

Crossposting to OE6 & OE General newsgroups.

Klaatu,

Can you please confirm that uninstalling 911567 and then installing it
manually using the downloaded file, and in the environment Mow Green
described, addressed your OE problem(s)?

Thanks very much!

FYI:

I had already removed the update. I just downloaded it via Mow's suggestion.
The problem with eml files saved to the Desktop returned. No headers. Not a
fix for that problem at least.

<waving> Hi Bruce </waving> The OP's issue was different than the one
you're experiencing.
As to what would resolve the .eml issue ... I'll leave that up to the
IE/OE MVPs

You're welcome, klaatu. Baratta knickto ?
Yes, the game running may have interfered with the update's installation.
Did you temp disable the AV prior to installing it ?
If so, which AV is it ?

The only resolution to the eml issue is to uninstall the stupid patch:
