Outlook Express data files & Window Live Mail

OK, Outlook Express isn't supplied with Vista but Windows Live Mail lets me
read NG's...I'm happy with that. However, I have a couple of questions
regarding it:

1. Can the .DBX mail files from OE be imported into Live Mail and if so,
how?
2. I've set up an account with about 6 NG's and I've tried every option
from the Sync menu, but
none of them seem to do anything. My thinking would be that the sync
would download all
headers / messages--based on the synchronisation settings, but it
doesn't.
So, how do I get this working?

TIA

Duncs

But Vista does have Windows Mail, the OE replacement, which can import your
OE identity

Hey Duncs--

See this for a possible solution:

http://www.windowslive.com/connect/p...90CA!172.entry

Additionally--

Windows Mail is supplied with Vista. It has some different features than
Win Live Mail. I like the GUI appearance of OE and Win Mail better, and in
Vista you get Win Mail and can download and use Win Live Mail. In the next
OS, Win Mail is gone, and you can download and use Win Live Mail.

Win Live Mail has considerably faster search for newsgroup entries by
individual or topic than either OE or Windows Mail. If you're in vista,
you can type msimn in the run box or search box to bring up Windows Mail.

You can try to import by going to File>ImportC:\Users\Your Computer Name
Here\AppData\Local\Microsoft>and select the Inbox and the sent folder in
successive inports or you can select newsgroup messages.

What I think is a better solution is simply to gather all your mail from or
Win Live Mail/Win Mail/OE on an older boot if you dual or multiboot and you
want to get the mail from the older boot. Then you can drag them and drop
them into the new Win Live Mail in box. I've been able to do this with the
..eml format of Windows Mail into Win Live, and the format of Win Live to Win
Live and I like simple drag and drop best. I do this often because I
multi-boot and install different beta builds of the OS.

I've used different ways to convert .dbx into the .eml of Windows Mail. One
way you can convert .dbx to drag and drop into Windows Live Mail is this:

View .dbx files in OE:

create a folder on the Desktop and open it.
Open the .dbx folder in Outlook Express, select a message, press ctrl + A to
select all the messages in the folder.
Left click on the selected messages and hold the mouse button down, drag the
messages out of Outlook Express onto the Desktop folder button on the
Taskbar.
The Desktop folder should appear, continue to hold the mouse button down and
drag the messages up into the Desktop folder and release the mouse button.

The messages will be converted to .eml files, which you should be able to
drag into a folder in Windows Live Mail.Open the folder in Windows Live Mail
and drag the .eml messages into the right pane of Windows Live Mail and
drop.

Good luck,

CH

Easily: File -> Import -> Messages (or Contacts too).
