Outlook Express Disappeared After Installing SP-2

After installing SP-2, Outlook Express was removed from my toolbar. How can
I reinstall? (And why did this happen in the first place?!?!)

What "SP2" (e.g., WinXP, Office)?

Did the Outlook Express (OE) icon disappear from your *taskbar*? ...Start
menu?

What happens when you do the following?...

Start > Run > (type in) msimn.exe > OK
--
OE6-specific newsgroup:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...outlookexpress
OE General newsgroup:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...xpress.general

WinXP, and it disaapear from the taskbar and start menu. (though I'm not sure
if it was ever listed under programs; I may have added it.

The command you suggested brings Outlook right up! So I guess that means
it's on my machine somewhere! I did a find but the results didn't bring up
the app or install it.

So, this is very helpful. If you have a suggestion for getting it back on my
menu bar, that would be great!!!

When you install the Office SP2, it makes Outlook the default email handler.

Open IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, then select Program tab.
Change Outlook to Outlook Express.

Close IE.

Should take affect immediately.

Careful with your shorthand: Outlook and Outlook Express are different
applications.

As Taurarian points out, an Office Update may have reassigned the default
mail client to Outlook:

1. http://www.oehelp.com/oedef.aspx; then...

2. http://www.oehelp.com/oelnk.aspx

3. Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Set Program
Access and Defaults > Select 'Outlook Express' for Mail.

If still no joy, see:

I have had multiple problems after installing SP2!
My Outlook Express has lost the ability to 'reply' and it says it's
configured wrong and to 're-install' outlook express. My address book is gone
as well!
I've also lost my 'system restore' and a host of other features. I can only
use OE as a newsgroup reader but that's it! I've had to go to another email
program until I can come up with a solution, hopefully.
I've had a stable system for over 2 years and just fear the complete
re-install of XP then the updates! Especially SP2 which put me in the
position I'm in today.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
I've read and tried many of the 'fixes' here but no luck yet. Some are over
my head so I haven't tried them yet.
TIA
