OUTLOOK EXPRESS Issues - msimn.exe goes to 98% cpu usage

Microsoft Windows XP/SP2
Internet Explorer 7
Outlook Express 6.0

-----------------------------------------------------------

When I try to open my OUTLOOK EXPRESS e-mail, I don't get any error
messages, but msimn.exe starts up and hogs anywhere from 50 to 98% cpu. And
then nothing happens. The cpu usage goes up and down a bit, but no OE.

Every other program seems to work fine, including IE. I've tried running
"sfc /scannow", as suggested by MS Support at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378 ("How to Reinstall or Repair
Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP"), but that didn't help.

I'm hesitant to uninstall and reinstall Outlook Express, because I'm not
confident in my ability to preserve all the folders, email messages, and
multiple identities I've got set up.

Any suggestions or instruction would be greatly appreciated.

Note: Nothing was added or changed. This happened upon booting up the
computer today. It had been fine prior.

The message store is probably corrupt. Create a new identity and try to
import the old messages. (File menu)

Hi - You've posted to a newsgroup for the Windows Vista operating system.
You'll get the OE experts' attention if you post in an Outlook Express
newsgroup:

I suggest that you examine insideoe's "When OE crashes or won't start":
http://www.insideoe.com/problems/errors.htm#crash

As others have advised, this shouldn't be posted to the Vista newsgroup.

That's because you are NOT using a News Client to access News Groups.

The following News (NNTP) URL will take your default News Client "here", to this group.

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof....vista.general

However, based upon your subject matter, you want...

Moi? I wonder why. I've never been subscribed to that ng because all I know
how to do with Outlook is install it and set it up for clients. But thanks
anyway. If you are subscribed, you might tell that person I won't see
his/her post in the Outlook ng.
