Just changed PC for a new one. When send recieve mail mail only sends. The
accounts pop. seems to change from the original setting to a number with.
between some of the numbers. (presumably that is the internet id address.)
mail account is with cable ntl. Have deleted all previous mail accounts in
outllook express and re set up account, but eventually same thing happened.
Any ideas anyone??

In IE, pull down "Tools", select "Accounts", click tab "Mail", double-click
the account for your ntlworld e-mail.

Now click tab "Servers", and ensure that the boxes are set as follows:

My incoming mail server is a POP3 server.
Incoming mail (POP3): pop.ntlworld.com
Ougoing mail (SMTP): smtp.ntlworld.com

Account name: <your ntlworld account name>
Password: set to your ntlworld password, or leave blank for prompting at
run-time.

Then on tab "General", ensure "Include this account when receiving mail or
synchronizing" is checked.

On tab "Advanced" ensure "Leave a copy of messages on server" is checked,
otherwise you will emtpy your inbox every time you log in.

The <ntlworld account name> above should be that part of your ntlworld
e-mail address before the "@", and must not include the "@" or
"@ntlworld.com".

If this does not work, please post the exact wording of any error messages.

You disabled Email Scanning (and reset the server address at OE Tools >
Accounts > Mail > [account] > Properties > Servers) and the POP3 server
address keeps changing back to, e.g., 120.1.0.0?

yes I have done this repeatedly. Dell help had me uninstall OE but were
unable to help get it reinstalled had to restore computer to earlier that
day. After really messing up computer told me to pay dell tech support
100.00 and Dell could fix oe. Ready to bite the bullet and pay.

Before doing that please clarify what the address is.

First you said it was 121.1.0.0

Then you agreed with PA Bear that it was 120.1.0.0

I'm wondering if in fact it is 128.0.0.1? <eg>

In which case you could go into a cmd window and enter:

netstat -abovp tcp >netstat.txt

and

notepad netstat.txt

then press F3 to find 128.0.0.1 to see what program is "listening" there
and on what port(s)

BTW depending on the number of connections you have
that diagnostic may take a while to complete its report.

Also if you do the netstat soon enough after trying a Send/Receive
you might see residual traces of whatever the real address is too
(i.e., even if it isn't the 128.0.0.1 that I suspect it will turn out to be.)

Good luck
