Hi,
I am having great trouble in getting around my problem. I have SP2 on my
machine, and I am trying to configure Microsoft outlook. As you may know
Microsoft outlook looks upon Outlook Express default installation( i learned
this from Microsoft website).
I keep on getting the following error whenever I click on the Microsoft
Outlook icon:
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express
4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express by running IESETUP.exe from
the IE5 folder located on your CD or through the windows update website
"
As SP2 is installed, I had IE 6. Hence it would not allow me running any
lower version setup. I tried to resolve the isseu by moving to IE7 beta. But
hard luck.
i have also gone thru a lot of online material on the user group, but I
couldn't find a resolution for my issue. I tried a lot of r&d by modifying
registry settings, setting group policy options etc. Nothing seems to have
been working.

Kindly suggest me a resolution. If possible drop me an email on

thanks,
darshan

*Never* post your real email address in a public newsgroup or forum!

And your Windows Update problem is...?

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components >
Outlook Express (check) > OK your way out.

You uninstalled Outlook (OL)? I thought you wanted OL as your default Mail
Client?

> M[S]OERES.DLL not found.

MSOERES.DLL should be in the mailnews.cab file on your computer and
can be extracted from there. It belongs in the C:\Program Files\Outlook
Express folder.

Also see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#7. If that doesn't help then see #5 on
that same page.

The webpage points to:

How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

If you upgraded from WinXP (SP1) to WinXP SP2, reinstalling SP2 will
reinstall IE and OE.

If yours is a newer machine which came with WinXP SP2 preinstalled, follow
the instructions for "Windows XP and Windows XP SP1: Reinstall or repair
Windows XP".

I don't think reinstalling OE is necessary. Making clear posts about what
you've done and which Mail Client you want to be the default is.
