All mail message folders in Outlook were empty after an XP upgrade. Can the
mail messages be retrieved, and if so, how?

Hi - this group is for Windows Update - not the best place for your
question.

I don't know what you upgraded from, but if you did an OS upgrade, you
should first have backed up *all* your data. If you did an upgrade in place,
or if you're talking about Windows Update not upgrade, your data should
still be there. Do a search for *.pst on your hard drive, including
hidden/system folders. When you find the file you were using, you can either
open it (open Outlook and use file | open....) or move it to the location of
your choice & open it in Outlook from there.

Outlook questions are best posted in m.p.outlook. Always include your
version, mode, SP level of Outlook (in Help | about) and any other pertinent
details.

OL mail and data contained in a *.pst file. Search to include hidden.
In OL File/Open etc

The same thing happened to me. This was an automatic update emanating from
Microsoft on Monday morning, not a planned upgrade, so no lectures about
backing up data, please. I'm guessing the same thing happened to the original
poster and countless others. I was running Outlook Express, and suddenly
found myself with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 instead, minus Outlook
Express and minus all my previous messages. This was an unpleasant surprise,
and highly distressing.

Could someone direct me (and everyone else) to where to go to find out how
to fix this? Could we have more specific info than "m.p. outlook" (whatever
that means) like maybe a link?

Thanks.

It's best to begin a new thread about *your* problem instead of
"piggybacking" onto someone else's thread, Carolina. The same thing did not
happen to you: Eric had *upgraded* to WinXP; You installed an Office
*Update* (apparently).

Now, as to your problem:

Windows version?

Do you now find MS Outlook as your default Mail Client or do you now find
Outlook Express "missing" from Start > Programs and/or your desktop
shortcuts?

What happens if you:

Start > Run > (type in) msimn.exe > OK ??
