Hi;
This started happening today and I don't think I changed anything. Messages in my inbox that are unread will switch to read (not bolded anymore in the list) after a bit. Any ideas? thanks - dave david@at-at- Windward Reports -- http://www.WindwardReports.com Page 2 Stage -- http://www.Page2Stage.com Enemy Nations -- http://www.EnemyNations.com me -- http://dave.thielen.com Barbie Science Fair -- http://www.BarbieScienceFair.info (yes I have lots of links) |

Hello David,
Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup. According to your description, I understand that these unread messages in your inbox that are switched to read messages for some reasons. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know. Based on my experience, this is mostly related to the Outlook rules or Delegates permission, please refer to the following information to check it: 1. Open Outlook, go to Tools -> Rules and Alerts, check if there is a rule to mark the receiving unread messages as read. Alternatively, you may perform the following steps to clean rules: 1) If you are running Outlook 2003, quit Outlook. Click Start -> Run, type "Outlook /cleanrules" and press Enter. Then you may re-define the rules. (Quotation marks are not included and there is a space between Outlook and /) 2) You can also use Mdbvu32 utility to remove the rules. More detailed steps, refer to the following article: 320022 XCLN: How to Use the Mdbvu32 Utility to Remove Inbox Rules http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320022 You can get the Mdbvu32 for Exchange 2003 at the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...482-4C6E-4EC5- 983E-127100D71376&displaylang=en 2. Open Outlook, go to Tools -> Options -> Delegates, check if you have grant access permission to other users. 291626 How to manage multiple Exchange mailbox accounts in Outlook 2002 and http://support.microsoft.com/?id=291626 3. If the issue persists, please perform the following test to check if the issue can be resolved: Test 1: Safe Mode ============== Safe Mode will disable all add-ins and extensions that will not start, as well as all corrupted resources, files, registries and templates. 1. Close Outlook by turn off the Outlook process using Task manager. 2. Click Start-->Run, type "Outlook /Safe" (Quotation marks are not included and there is a space between Outlook and /safe) and press Enter. Let me know if the issue persists in the Outlook Safe Mode. If Safe Mode resolves the problem, please disable the Add-ins by the following steps: 1. Click Tools, click Options, click Other tab. 2. Click Advanced options button, click COM add-ins, uncheck all the available options. 3. Test the issue again. Test 2: Create a new profile ===================== I suggest you create a new email profile with a new PST file. Test the issue in the new profile. Please refer to the following article to create a new email profile. Please start in the new profile and provide me with the result. How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829918 I appreciate your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Hello;
The only rules I have are ones that move email with specific text in the senders (kill list) or recipient's (mailing lists) address to specific folders. And that email stays bold/unread. These rules are local. I have no delegates. I have no Add-Ins. I rebooted the server (in case that was the problem). I then rebuilt my workstation - formatted the hard driver and reinstalled everything. (I did this for a multitude of reasons - not just this problem.) I still have the problem. The only thing unusual about my system is that I have 1 MAPI and 2 POP3 accounts all pointing to my SBS Exchange server. However my wife's Outlook has 1 MAPI and 1 POP3 account and it works correctly. Also, I turn the reading pane off - but I have always done that and back when my Outlook pointed to 3 POP3 accounts, it worked fine. ??? - thanks - dave On Fri, 30 Sep 2005 04:52:27 GMT, v- ("Nathan Liu [MSFT]") wrote: >Hello David, > >Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup. > >According to your description, I understand that these unread messages in >your inbox that are switched to read messages for some reasons. Hi;
I wasn't clear in my previous post - I still have the problem. If I turn the reading pane on, then it works fine. But if the reading pane is off (I turn it off) then I have this problem. This morning I started Outlook and it downloaded all email that had been collected over the night. All email to the MAPI address was marked read and all email to the POP3 accounts was left unread. This has to have something to do with it being a MAPI account because I never had this problem when all I had was POP3 accounts. Any ideas? thanks - dave On Mon, 03 Oct 2005 01:13:23 GMT, v- ("Nathan Liu [MSFT]") wrote: >Hi David, > >Thank you for posting back! I'm glad to hear that things are working >correctly for you now. Hi David,
Thank you for your update. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. To narrow down this issue, please answer and perform the following questions and steps: 1. Does this issue occur when you access your Exchange mailbox via OWA? 2. As you mentioned, you have 1 MAPI and 2 POP3 accounts, and all accounts are pointed to your SBS Exchange Server. What's the exact account information? 1) As you mentioned, All email to the MAPI address was marked read and all email to the POP3 accounts was left unread. If you remove the 2 POP3 accounts, and only leave the Exchange user account in the Outlook, what's the result? 2) Please kindly refer to the following KB article to create a new email profile in the Outlook, what's the result? 829918 OL2003: How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;EN-US;829918 3) Does this issue only occur with an specific user account? If so, please try to delete the specific user account and then re-create it. Please check if the issue can be reproduced. Important: Please first make a backup for the specific user account's mailbox and Outlook's database. 3. If you configure the problematic user account in other working workstation, then check if the issue can be reproduced. 4. If the issue persists, please make some screen shots of this issue, and then attach them in your reply. I appreciate your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Hello;
This last time the 3 oldest unread message were marked read (un-bold) and all newer ones were still bold. And they were from both the MAPI and one of the POP3 accounts. I made a new profile (for the 4th time) - no difference. I can't delete my user account - it is connected to everything (the downside of a domain). My wife's Outlook is set up the same way - one MAPI and 3 POP accounts and it works fine. I set hers last night to be like mine (no reader pane) and mine to be like here (turned on reader pane). Her messages were correct and mine were marked read - except for the 3 most recent. I then deleted my 2 POP accounts and then it worked correctly. I turned the POP accounts back on - and I am getting the problem again. Attached is a screenshot. The 4 top messages (above the selected message) I have never read. Yet 3 of them are not bold. ??? - thanks - dave On Wed, 05 Oct 2005 06:59:33 GMT, v- ("Nathan Liu [MSFT]") wrote: >Hi David, > >Thank you for your update. Hi David,
Thank you for your update. I cannot find the screen shot in the post, please kindly send the screen shot to my mailbox: v- Considering the current condition, please also help me collect the following information: 1. Click Start, go to Settings -> Control Panel, double-click Mail, in the dialog box, click E-mail Accounts, select "View or change existing e-mail accounts" and click Next, make a screen shot of the E-mail Accounts page. 2. Please help me re-confirm if the Exchange user account and other two POP3 user accounts are respective different account. 3. As you mentioned, if you delete 2 POP3 accounts and then it works correctly, let's configure the 2 POP3 accounts in the Outlook Express, and then check if the issue can be reproduced. 4. If the issue persists, please perform the following steps to check if this issue can be resolved: Test 1: Clean View ============== It may happen if the Outlook views are corrupted, if this is the case, we may reset the views by the following steps: - Close Outlook. - Click Start, click Run, type "Outlook.exe /CleanViews" (without quotation mark) and press Enter. Note: The command will delete custom view and reset to Outlook default view. Test 2: Repair MAPI =============== - Quit all programs. - Rename the Mapi32.dll file in the C:\Windows\System32 folder to "Mapi32.old" (without quotation marks). - Locate the Fixmapi.exe file in the C:\Windows\System32 folder, and then double-click "Fixmapi.exe" to run the program. - Restart your computer. Test 3: Clean Outlook Cache ===================== If the problem persists, please try to clean cache on the client side to see if it helps: Search for the following four files and rename them by changing the file extension from ".dat" to ".old": - outcmd.dat, - extend.dat, - frmcache.dat, - views.dat. I appreciate your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you. My answer to this was posted yesterday - but it has the title "Outlook messages going un-bold - email.png" because of the attached screenshot. Can you find that message? thanks - dave On Wed, 05 Oct 2005 06:59:33 GMT, v- ("Nathan Liu [MSFT]") wrote: >Hi David, > >Thank you for your update. Hi Dave,
Thank you for your update. I am sorry for the delayed response due to the weekend. Please understand that the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is greatly appreciated! I have checked my email, and found the email.png attachments in the your email (2005-10-8 1:36). Considering the current condition, please refer to the following information: 1.
