Ran Windows update yesterday, and now everytime I try to check my mail with
Outlook Express I keep getting an error message called 0x800CCC19. meaning
that the process timed out. I haven't changed any other settings and accesing
the email accounts through the web works just fine.

Anybody that now how to solve this problem?

You can go to system restore and restore from an earlier date and it
will get rid of the updates that you put on. If you have windows XP it
is pretty easy to do. I did that twice with service pack 2 when it was
bothering my computer. I waited a long time after that and I guess they
fixed the problems and it works fine now. I just downloaded the update
validation thing and then the thing to remove malicious something or
another. I think that I will leave the others alone for a while. It
scares me to read all of these problems with things.

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

<paste>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
