OK...My desktop will not allow the Office XP SP3 update to install because it
is searching for the Microsoft Outlook 2002 file "OUTRET.MSI" and it is not
on my MS Office XP Pro w/Publisher CDs nor on the XP CD. My laptop ran
fine...what can I do?

Thanks!

Outret.msi is from a standalone Outlook retail CD. So, you would need to
insert the Outlook CD and not the Office CD.

Alternatively, there are reports that ActiveSync from HP also has this
file - if you have that handy, you could try that.

Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control
panel to see if you have a standalone copy of
Microsoft Office Outlook listed there. If so,
it's on that CD. If you're also running the same
edition (i.e. XP(2002) or 2003) of Microsoft Office
you may be able to uninstall the standalone Outlook
then use the one from the Microsoft Office install.
