outstanding high priority activesync problems

i first posted here about my problems with activesync almost 3 months ago.
looks like none of the issues have been resolved yet. has anybody found
solutions for any of these issues? or do you know if MS even plans to fix
them?


i've used activesync 3.x w/ W2002, W2003, and now WM5. never had any
problems until i treid to use ActiveSync 4.x and WM5 on my Sprint PPC-6700.
AS4 has been such a nightmare that i'm ready to sell my device and look for
something else.

note that i have spent many days upgrading and downgrading activesync,
uninstalling and reinstalling activesync and outlook. i've run scanpst, hard
reset my WM5 device, deleted and created partnerships, disabled/modified
firewall settings, etc. i have tried doing all of the above things in every
possible order, but it hasn't made any difference.

list of my problems with activesync 4.x ...

1) duplicate contacts, calender entries and tasks are created on my desktop
pst file.

2) cannot copy files from device to desktop. i can copy files to the device
with no problems, but can never copy from ppc device to my PC.

3) Tasks created on desktop cannot be synchronized to ppc. doesn't matter
if they are new or existing tasks.

4) Tasks changes made on desktop are not updated on device. doesn't matter
what activesync settings are.

5) some Contacts never show up on device.

6) calender, contact and tasks items are "randomly" deleted from PC
regardless of activesync settings. i NEVER get prompted to "resolve
conflicts".

7) if i try to sync calender, contact, or task items with two PCs, data gets
randomly deleted or is not updated. activesync "if there is a conflict"
settings don't seem to work at all.

8) if i choose to sync "Files", all of the files in the PPC "My Documents"
folder are instantly deleted during the first sync. no problems after that,
but thats sort of irrelevant since i've just lost all of my files.

9) multiple "phantom" calender items keep showing up on my PPC. by
"phantom" i mean that the calender items do not show up when viewing calender
in outlook or on PPC, but i get "15 min until meeting" reminder alarms on my
PPC for a meeting that has no title or info. seems that there are always at
least
three of these "phantom" calendar items. i still have not found any way to
delete them. note that they do not appear on my PC.

10) usb sync is very flaky on laptops - sometimes it never finishes
connecting and syncing. i have tried everything in the Activesync 4.0
troubleshooting guide, but it makes no difference. i finally gave up and
resort to infrared sync, which works fine but is slower.

11) i never get a chance to "resolve conflicts". the PPC simply writes over
data on the PCs. Tools > Options > [device] > "if there is a conflict"
settings don't seem to work at all.


all of the above problems have made my PDA virtually worthless. i got a
Windows PDA so i could sync data between two PCs and my PDA. with all of
these issues
though, i either can't sync data, or i lose data. bottom line is that i
cannot trust any syncs and wind up doublechecking. i have wasted DAYS trying
to fix these issues, but to no avail. at this point, my WM5 PDA is more of a
hinderance than a convenience.

note that i had NO problems at all with my Sprint PPC-6601 (WM2003 and
Activesync 3.7.1/3.8). too bad i sold it, or i would just get rid of my WM5
device and Activesync 4.x.

if i sound bitter, then its because i feel that i am right to feel bitter.
i wasted $700 on a WM5 PDA that has caused me to waste DAYS of time and
constantly lose data. i expected WM5 and Activesync 4.x to be more stable
and reliable, but i have instead concluded that Activesync 4.x is so buggy
and unusable that i can not trust it or even use it.

note that i have tried to discuss these issues with Sprint, but every tech i
have talked to there knows next to nothing about WM5 and Activesync. they
told me to contact MS, or said they would switch out the device with a
refurbished replacement device.

2) What sort of files are you trying to copy? Files in ROM on the device
can't be copied. Can you try copying a file from the desktop to the device,
then back to the desktop (in another folder, maybe)? Does that work?

If this doesn't work, I'd take Sprint up on the new device offer...

thanks for the reply. i have been trying to copy .txt, .doc, .xls, .jpg ,
..gif files. i've tried very small test files too. i've tried copying from
desktop to device and then back to desktop, and vice-versa. i've tried by
creating the files on both the ppc and the pc. i've tried copying to and
from both main memory and memory cards. do you have any other ideas?

i'm very hesitant to get a refurbushed replacement because i spent alot of $
on this device, and i know i have taken care of mine. refurbished units from
Lockline may have been dropped, scratched, exposed to moisture, etc.

OK, so you tried it and... You're using the Explore Mobile Device thing
from ActiveSync, right? And when you try to copy a file from there to, say,
the desktop of your PC, what happens?

a popup window flashes on the desktop (too quickly to see what it says), and
then nothing. no error, or copied file, or anything.
