How can i overwrite existing files - these are not system files ...

i play a mmorpg that allows me the use of MoDs - when a new patch to the
game hits my MoDs are sometimes 'broken' and i need to update them. In XP i
was able to download the new MoD and just copy to correct directory and even
tho the file names were the same i would get the option to 'overwrite' the
existing file with the new file....in vista it does not give me this
option....it gives me, try again - skip - cancel....i am admin on this pc - 1
user - me, set to full permissions.

please help.

Since UAC you are not an admin , get a file manager (Total Commander,
FAR manager) or use internal Windows Explorer right click on its icon
Run as administrator try to copy. Other solution Right click on the
directory what you want to copy in, select Properties then Security and
set correct permissions.

You're using Vista. This means you computer is no longer under your
control but under Microsoft's control. They can kill it anytime their
buggy DRM software thinks it should be killed. Do yourself a favor and
either go back to XP or upgrade to Ubuntu, www.ubuntu.com/

Nope it is not a bug it is a feature.

If you upgraded from xp you cant be even sure that those are your files
when i upgraded to Vista it left owner sids alone. You can check if
this is the case right click on
directory->Properties->Security->Advanced->Owner if it looks like as the
picture (http://www.bcsaba.net/~bcsaba/vistaperm.jpg) you should take
the ownership.

Well the problem with Ubuntu that he cant even run his mmorpg on it
(well perhaps after 4-5 hour wine wizardy and lose of customer techical
support of the game).

Then she should do what I do, dual boot XP and Ubuntu. I use Ubuntu for
real work and XP for gaming.

Do me a favor and stop stalking me. There isn't one single lie in my
statement above, btw. This makes YOU the liar, as always.
