When I try to overwrite a folder with another folder of the same name, vista
merge the contents of the folder together instead. The first option I'm given
is to merge the folder.

How do I overwrite folder totally instead of merging the folders?

Delete the one and then move or copy the other.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. But isn't there anyway to overwrite
folders and files?

I run a program that require mods update. I have to download mods from the
net and then overwrite some folders. Beside having to delete off all the
required folders, is there anyway to make vista overwrite just the folder and
copying over?
