Paging File Question, due to slow processor?

Hello everyone, I have a general question here about my paging file size. I
now have it set at 8000, and that is for both the recommended and the other
slot there that is present. I was told to keep them both the same from the
forums on PC magazine.

I have plenty of hard drive space, but my processor is a VIA Esther CD-7
which comes on Everex PC's and to be totally honest, they are complete
garbage!!! They are made to be "green" or enviornmentally friendly.
However this forces my processor to only run at 20 watts to save power and
there is no way to adjust this.

So I turned my paging file up from 1367, to 4000 and noticed a difference,
not much, but some. Then I went and turned it up to 8000 and I noticed a
huge difference. My issue is this mainly;

ALSO SORRY; I JUST JOINED MY VERY FIRST NEWS GROUP EVER, SO I HOPE I AM
DOING THIS OK THEN, IF NOT I DO APOLOGIZE. MY QUESTION IS THIS;

I JUST PURCHASED A STICK OF RAM, I CAN ONLY GO UP 1GIG THEN. I AM RUNNING
WINDOWS VISTA HOME BASIC NOW ON 1 GIG. SO I HAVE 2 SLOTS, DIM SLOTS, BUT
CAN ONLY GO UP 1 GIG TOTAL. SO I PURCHASED TWO STICKS OF MEMORY TODAY, BOTH
1 GIG THEN, MY MANUFACTURER SAID THAT IT IS GOOD TO USE THE SAME BRAND FOR
EACH SLOT, SO WE DECIDED TO GO WITH THE TWO 1 GIG STICKS THEN. I HAVE TO
CONTACT THEM AND THEY ARE GOING TO WALK ME THRU THE INSTALL SO I DO NOT VOID
MY WARRANTY.

HOWEVER; THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ME ANY ASSISTANCE ON PAGING FILE SIZE. SO
WHEN I INSTALL THIS EXTRA GIG OF RAM; "WHAT WOULD BE MY PAGING FILE SIZE
FOR BOTH EMPTY SLOTS?"

RIGHT NOW ITS 8000, AND 8000. WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE THINK I SHOULD SET THAT AT
THEN? ANY HELP IS MORE THAN APPRECIATED, THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE I GOT
MY PC, IT WAS A GIFT AND MY MOTHER HAD NO IDEA I WAS INTO VIDEO AND IMAGE
EDITING AND PRODUCING ON YOUTUBE AND GOOGLE AND YAHOO AND STUFF, SO SHE DID
NOT GET MY A GOOD PC AS FAR AS PROCESSOR GOES, VIDEO CARD, ECT........ SO I
AM MAKING THE BEST OUT OF WHAT I HAVE AS TO NOT HURT HER FEELINGS SEE.

I AM SLOWLY UPGRADING THIS PC THEN, I HAVE ALREADY SUNK ABOUT $300 INTO IT
SO FAR. I JUST GOT IT IN AUGUST OF 07 THEN. I CAN GIVE YOU ALL MY SPECS
AND SEE IF THIS HELPS; IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS, PLEASE GOTO;
http://www.everex.com/ AND CLICK ON PRODUCTS, MY PC SPECS ARE FULLY LISTED
THERE, EVERYTHING. I AM RUNNING THE EVEREX IMPACT GC 3502 THEN.

I HAVE; 1.5GHz VIA CD-7 Processor; 1GB DDR2 533MHz, 80GB SATA Hard Disk ,
and my sound card and video card and stuff are basically unknown. It is a
very cheap PC in general, my sound card and video card are made by Realtex
or something along those lines.

I hope all this info helps then. I just need to know where my paging file
should be set at? Or; Should I check the box to let windows decide for me
then?

Please help me out here everyone, or anyone that knows there stuff. Like I
said, my FULL PC INFO can be found at the link I gave you above then. Also
I am running the Everex Impact GC3502

Thank You Very Much
I am new to any newsgroup, I hope this is appropriate, if not, just let me
know, my mistake then. I take it that these news groups are for help, and
advice and stuff. That is why I joined the Windows Vista General Group
here.

Take Care Everyone

set the page file to 'system managed'.
If Windows needs more room, it will make the file bigger.
If you don't need more, it will stay small.
I don't know what your hardware is, but if your computer's manufacturer is
'walking you through' the instll of the RAM, you should be fine.

Your page file setting isn't going to make the C7-D processor run any
faster. What you want to do is increase your system memory to minimize
usage of the slow disk-based page file.
If you're doing image processing, you have to replace the CPU and
motherboard with something faster.

... 2 posts and not one useful reply yet

What you want to do is set your page file to 2x your total RAM. So i
you have 1024MB of RAM, set your MIN and MAX page file to 2048MB.

If you have 2048MB of RAM, set your page file to 4096MB

This is the best way to optimize the page file for lower-end PCs.
Good luck

Wrong, and wrong.

Both replies (from Not Me and from Andy) were correct, and both were
helpful. Your suggestion, however, is totally out to lunch.

^ 10 seconds of research will tell you that letting Windows manage it
own page file will cause the page file to become fragmented over time a
its size is constantly adjusted to suit virtual memory addressing needs

Good try though, Bob
