Paper Size Stuck In Word Pad

Hello,

On my elderly friends' computer, when they go to
"page setup" in WordPad that came with Vista, the only two options there are
"4X6" and "automatic". This narrows the printable area a lot.
The margins will not adjust. They asked me if I can fix it,
I said I was not sure, need to ask around.
Sounds like a registry problem. Is there a fix?
What needs to be done? This is the first time they tried to use Word Pad,
and no restore points to go back to, would not know where to go back to
anyway or when the problem started. It's a Christmas gift PC.

Any help would be great. Thank you.

My WordPad has literally dozens of paper sizes. All I can guess is that
they have a weird default printer set up that only allows 4x6 - such as a
small photo printer.

Probable confirmation - I changed my default printer from PDF to an
inkjet, and the number of paper sizes was cut in half (pun possibly
intended).

Just guessing...but it might be worth a
try to update the printer driver. And...
if the printer has an option to print
4x6 photos...there may be a setting
in Printer Preferences that needs to
be adjusted.

Thank you, but the default printer is a Kodak,
the newest model that was available around Xmas.
I did check the properties and paper size for it
and it has a lot of paper sizes. There are no newer drivers available.

I suspect that the last time the 'default' printer was used it was used to
print a picture on 4x6 paper.

When you use page setup, the current setting for the default printer are
what is available.

If you do ctrl-P you will be able to select the printer and its options then
close out without actually doing the printing. That will be the 'new'
available printer for page setup. Or you can go the the printer itself
outside of WordPad and set the default printer and paper there before
returning to WordPad.

If this is one of Kodak's AIO printers there are a couple of settings in
printing preferences that could affect this.

Is the Kodak printer set as the default printer? If so, right click on it
in Control Panel, Printers. Click on the General tab. Under My preferences
click on the dropdown box and select Factory defaults. Click Apply. Click
Layout Tab. Ensure that Scale is set with the radio button for By: XXX%
selected and 100% is selected. Layout needs to be Normal. If it is changed
click on Apply. Ensure that Letter is selected under Paper size. Ensure
that there is no photo quality paper in the printer (especially if you have
a specific tray for that 4 X 6 photo paper that mine has.)
