In Windows XP with IE8, is it possible to take a screenshot of just part of
a webpage--for example, a webcam view without all the surrounding stuff on
the page?

Thank you!

Yes, FastStone Capture (it's free) will. But you mentioned webcam view.
As this and multimedia videos doesn't get displayed on the screen in the
normal fashion. Although FastStone Capture will probably work for webcam
views. FastStone Capture only captures still shots.

If you want to capture part of the screen like recording it like a
movie. That is a totally different type of capture software.

Thank you, Bill! I downloaded and installed the program, and it is VERY
good. It captured the webcam view without a hitch, and I can even directly
email it without going into another program. The only problem is that it is
not free. You get 30 days free and then you pay $20 or have to uninstall it.

Oh really? It used to be free for home users. At least up to v5.2 for
sure, because that is what I am using. Don't know what version this is
no longer true. Here is v5.3. And according to them, was the last free
version.

FastStone Capture 5.3 (last freeware version)

I've never used a webcam, but I assume you
just mean that you want a section of the
page/screen. If you're already using IrfanView
you can use that to capture, then drag a selection
onto the new image, Edit -> Crop Selection.

Thank you again, Bill! I removed version 6.9 and installed version 5.3. It
works exactly the same (at least for my purposes), and I love it!

Thank you, Mayayana! I do use IrfanView, but although I tried to use the
capture feature, as you suggested, I didn't find it easy to use. For now,
I'll stick with FastStone Capture 5.3.

| I didn't find it easy to use. For now,

Woops. Sorry. I see what you mean. I've used it
in the past, but with the latest version I'm just
getting a black rectangle, no matter what I do. I
have no idea why. I do find that the basic XP shortcut
works, though: Ctrl + PrtScr puts an image of the
Desktop onto the Clipboard. IrfanView Edit -> Paste
loads that into an IrfanView window for cropping.
Then drag selection and Edit -> Crop Selection.

But with FastStone Capture, you can pick the part of the screen right away
and then do whatever you want with it. It's very slick!
