Partial sync since an Exchange account was added

Hi,

I've been using ActiveSync with my mobile phone for over a year with no
problem. 2 weeks ago, I started having problems; my calendar and contacts
stopped synchronizing (see details below). This is about at the same time as
I added an Exchange account to my Outlook configuration (over and above my
pop accounts, which I have kept). The 2 may not be related, but the timing
really seems to coincide.

Does anybody know what could be causing this problem and how to resolve it?

Thanks,

Eric

Symptoms:
- Calendars won't sync either way
- New or modified contacts won't sync, but deleted ones do
- Notes and OneNotes sync very well both ways
- Email folders don't seem to sync (POP, haven't tried with my Exchange
folders)
- In all cases, there are no error messages and both the phone and the
computer state that the synchronization was complete

Setup detail:
- WinXP SP2
- Office 2007 (5 POP accounts, 1 Exchange account)
- ActiveSync 4.2.0
- Windows Mobile 5
- Pocket Informant 2007
- OneNote Mobile 2007
- USB sync

I found a solution.

Simply run the MS Office Diagnostics tool (available in the MS Office Tools
menu of the Start menu).

The sync problem was a side-effect of an incorrect office configuration
setting in the registry.

I found this while looking for a solution to another problem that I thought
was not related to this one. Every time I started Outlook 2007, I would get
the following error message:

"Either there is no default mail dient or the current mail dient cannot
flulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set
it as the default mail dient.
OK"

Running the diagnostic tool removed the startup error message, corrected the
problems I was having to sync, and solved an issue I was having while trying
to attach files to emails from within Office apps.

I hope this can be helpful for others too.
