Partial Update? What if I pull the plug due to overheating?

On my Win XP computer, I run a RAID system, and often the CPU runs hot, and I
get an annoying warning sound like a European Siren.

That was happening tonight, so I started to shut the system down, and let it
cool off.

But Windows Update had other plans. It started to install 4 updates.
Well, we are on 4 of 4 updates about2 hours later, I am getting the message,
Installing Update 4 of 4. Do not turn off your computer. It will shut off
automatically.

I do not know if the system is caught in a loop, and nothing is being
installed.
If it is actually installing, but doing it so slowly since the CPU is hot.
Whether the CPU will stand being submitted to high heat over the night (I
hope to sleep).

Would it be better to pull the plug now, and face the consequences of a half
installed update 4 0f 4?

What is the likelyhood that I will be able to use my computer in the morning?

Any help and advice would be most appreciated.

Add to post.

I noticed that my mouse is not working at this point, probably because of
the overheading. What should I do???

Hi there,

Since it is not installing well I would shut the system down and get a
proper cooling for your CPU ( Arctic collers work great and are chap as
well) or check the sort and amount of paste used between the coller and the
CPU.

Best regards,
Michel Denie
