Partitioned Hard Drive, Want to use Restore Disks

I have an HP Pavilion Computer. It came with a HUGE 500 gig hard drive. I
partitioned it using the function within Windows, shrinking the C: drive,
etc. Eventually, I will need to restore the system. If I use the restore
disks that I made when I bought the computer, will my D: drive partition be
wiped out? I ask because when I popped the restore disks in as a test, I got
the warning that my computer would be restored to factory condition.

I am hoping that I can keep my files, documents, etc. on the D: partition so
they will be safe if I need to restore the computer. Is there a safe way to
do this? A 500 gig hard drive seems too big for just the operating system.

Thank you

The HP destructive restore will indeed undo any changes you have made,
returning the machine to exactly the same state as when you purchased it..

Thank you for your answer. It was BAD news, but real. I guess I'll not waste
my time partitioning the hard drive again, and just connect an external USB
drive. Thank you again
