Just bought a ne Vista Home Premium HP PC.
I would like to partition the drive but HP people 'discourage'
partitioning and will not support it.
Looks to me like it came partitoined. I have a 'D' drive marked as
'Recovery.'
I have partitioned nearly every PC I have ever owned.
I have found a Windows Help site that gives the instructions.
Is it really any more dangerous to partition in Vista than in previous
versions?
I have Partition Magic 9. Will that do what I want?
Is it possible to change the letters assigned to drives/partitions? The
DVD is currently labeled as 'E.' I would like to have my partitions as
C,D, and E.

There's no technical reason you can't partition your drive and you can use
whatever drive letters you want until you run out of letters, but I'm
curious what you find more attractive about partitioning over just using
folders?

CREATE YOUR RECOVERY DISCS FIRST!

I imagine the main reason HP discourage partitioning is because it can stop
the recovery and related applications from working. If you make recovery
discs first, you will have a way to get Vista back if it goes wrong.

Built in Vista Disk Management should do enough to partiton the drive how
you want. Right click on 'computer', select 'manage', then find 'Disk
Management'. You can right click on the partitions to change drive letters,
create / delete and (new to Vista) change the partition sizes.
