Password demanded

I am unable to access Vista from an XP computer because apparently Vista is
demanding a user name and password to share files.
Password protected sharing is clearly turned OFF in the frigging network and
sharing box.
The computers are in the same workgroup, all sharing permissions have been
turned on.
SP1 had done nothing to rectify the disaster that is Vista, particularly
networking with XP computers, which far outnumber Vista boxes because XP
works and Vista doesn't.
When you do something as simple as changing the name of the workgroup you
have to reboot the computer. How is this any better than Windows 3.x?
Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Add Permissions to the share for the user ID ('Find names' button) of the XP
system, or create a matching userID/password on the Vista machine.

Vista works just fine for millions of people. In my opinion it is
superior to XP and much more secure. If you are having problems you should
post the problem and someone will certainly help you overcome it. Otherwise,
you should go back to XP. I am so satisfied with my Vista Ultimate x86 I
seldom use my three XP systems.
XP is still available for sale. If you don't already have a valid copy
of XP you can purchase one, determine the necessary drivers you need if your
machine came preinstalled with Vista and then run XP to your heart's content
or you can purchase an older computer with XP on it.
You certainly won't get any assistance with your current attitude.

Vista's file sharing is EXACTLY like XPs. All user names/passwords must
exist on both/all machines that are sharing files. You can set shares so
all can use them, or only some can use them.

Seriously, I don't understand why there are so many questions about this.
Nothing has changed. I've been sharing files between Vista, XP and OS X
for over a year with no problems.

This is not a requirement. I have our network (2XP and 2Vista machines)
setup without needing passwords or names on all machines. I merely set the
Password sharing requirement to Off.

I'm new to vista but it only took me a few minutes to set up the vista
machines to see the XP machines. My printer is attached to one of the XP
machines and that works just like it did when I was on an XP machine.
