Can you tell me please how to password (using Vista Ultimate) an individual
file? Is this the same to password protect an individual folder?

NT-based systems like Vista and XP don't use passwords to protect resources;
they use permissions. If you don't want to set up user permissions (or you
have a Vista Home version instead of Business or Ultimate) you can zip the
folder/file and assign a password to the zipped file. Otherwise Google for
something like "password protect files Vista". You can also encrypt the
folders using a free program like TrueCrypt.

I could password files OK in XP, I did a 'Save As' and then there was
another link at the bottom right hand corner of the 'Save As' box to let me
password the file. I did this several times, and now I have moved this
folders to Vista it still works - when I open the folder it asks for a
password. I've looked in Google but the sites which allow you to password
folders want £20 to buy their product!

The free office suite OpenOffice allows you to password protect documents
you create.

Yes, you saved as a zipped file.
