I was trying to install one of these integrated development systems on my
new Vista PC. Anyway, I have an optional package that has to be placed
at a specific position for the IDE package to pick it up, which is in the
folder
"Program Files". (OK, I could place it anywhere, but since I'm trying to
duplicate the environment of my laptop so that I can use the desktop when
I'm actually home, I wanted it the same.)
Anyway, I had the install of the option create a structure that I could just
unzip and place on the machine. I tested it on an XP setup and it worked
fine. (Just had to answer one question when it built the program and then
away it went) Anyway, I copied my zip file to a temp directory with a
thumb drive, then expanded it. When I tried to move it into the "Program
Files" directory, the system barfed. It kept trying to move it into one of
the
existing directories. When I tried to move it into the root to "Program
Files"
it kept giving me all kinds of permission warnings.
What I ended up doing is using explorer and manually creating a new folder
in "Program Files" of a matching name. Then I went down one level and
moved all the items in the 'structure' into the new folder. While that
worked,
it was a PITA! How the heck do you easily say 'place here', when you move
or copy a structure and not let it go into one of the existing sub-folders?
