Ask yourself some questions...
1) Did I personally contact and request anything from those I am receiving
the emails?
2) Do I have an issue with my computer right now?
3) When I manually check for updates - via the built-in Windows Update
facilities - do I need any updates?
Microsoft does not generally attach anything to an email for you to
install - and even if they did - they would provide you with a password to
unlock the file and decompress it. They can - if you contacted them about
some issue and they helped you resolve it and told you they would send you
something - send you a link to download a patch and a password to unlock it.
However - it's a pretty simple thing to know whether or not that situation
applies to you.
The general rule always applies.
If you did not expect an email with an attachment and you cannot confirm
with the sender via other means what the attachment is - erase the email
completely and forget you ever got it. Under *no circumstances* should you
open an unknown email/instant message attachment.
