Everytime I try to launch live messenger my Pc starts to act very strange.
Everything goes slow and all programmes take ages to open such as IE. The
screen starts to go black as if the monitor is trying to switch off then it
comes back again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it 3 times now and its
the same thing every time. Any Ideas. I think I had a message once that said
messenger failed and I looked at the report and It mentioned debug or
something like that. Any ideas. Thanks

Greetings,

When the monitor comes back, does it appear exactly the same or has things changed (colours,
text, quality of the image, etc.)? It almost sounds like you're Windows is going back to a
default driver when you use Messenger, which is rather weird.

Additionally, before you open Messenger again, bring up the Task Manager (press
Ctrl-Shift-Esc or right-click on an empty area of the taskbar and choose Task Manager), then
the Processes tab, click the CPU entry twice to sort by CPU descending and then launch
Messenger.

Messenger is the msnmsgr.exe process that will appear when you launch it and I'd be
interested to see if it's going (and staying) @ around 98-99%.

Hi Jonathan
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it very much.
Sometimes it was changing. My background picture would dissapear then come
back the next time the screen flickered.
I uninstalled live messenger and have went back to messenger 7.5 but for
some reason when I try to watch an on line video through MSN such as a news
video the same thing happens everything goes slow etc. I have just tried to
watch a video through real player and the same thing happens. I ran sfc
/scannow but that has made no difference. Everything was working perfect
until I installed the live messenger. Now I am left with this problem. Any
ideas. Thanks

Greetings,

Since it sounds like this just happened, I'd suggest trying to use System Restore to restore
back to before this happened. To do so, click Start, then Help & Support, then "Undo changes
to my computer using System Restore" and then go through the wizard to choose a date before
all this happened.

Additionally, normally I'd describe what you're seeing as a driver problem since it sounds
like you're not able to do overlays (a method where most video players play video) properly.

Hi Johnathan.
Thanks again for you advice
When you mentioned a driver problem I remembered that my son had updated our
graphic card driver so I read some forums on Nvidia and have managed to solve
the problem of the videos not playing by installing other drivers for the
graphics card. I have now installed IE7 so I am now going to try to install
messenger Live again. Hopefully it will work this time. Thanks again
