Hello everybody,

yesterday at midnight I needed to print a document, so I turned on my pc. It
took him 20 minutes to boot, and 10 minutes to download a stupid .doc file.
Normally he boots in about 5 minutes or so.

While checking my system, i realised i just had a windows update. So i did a
system restore to the day before yesterday. And now my pc boots perfectely
(in 5 minutes :-) )

I looked at the updates:
- microsoft root certifcates ( cant' imagine why this would make my pc slower)
- .NET 2 Service Pack 1
- .NET 3 Service Pack 1

So I would suggest that one of those .NET Service Packs has a serious bug
that affects your pc speed. Is anyone else having the same problem? I
couldn't find a KB-article about it, so maybe it isn't know to Microsoft yet.

Svekke,

How do you know your system is a he and not a she ? <w>
I doubt the root certificate update caused the system slowdown so that
leaves either both or one of the .NET SPs as the culprit.
You state you did a system restore but you did not state that the
installation of the SPs was successful nor did you state that the system
was restarted after their installation. Not restarting the system after
they installed *could* have been the cause of the issue.

STRONGLY suggest that you check in Add/Remove Programs in the Control
Panel to see what is listed as installed for both .NET Frameworks and,
under 'Windows XP - Software updates', to see if the Root Cert update is
listed.
If the latter is not, do a manual visit to the Windows/Microsoft Update
site and reinstall it.

Where any of the updates reoffered via Automatic Updates ?

let's call my a system 'it' then :-)

Once i've installed the updates, i didn't restart the pc, but i shut it
down, to restart it later. And then it started happening. When i check the
'windows update status', it says that 3.0 didn't install correctly and needs
to be reinstalled.

you think that 2.0 is the one causing the trouble?
Or the fact that 3.0 didn't install? (maybe some parts were installed and
some haven't, causing the system to take a lot of time to restart?)

(btw: sorry if my english isn't correct, it's a foreign langauge to me. But
posting on the dutch forum would take to long to wait for a respons :-) )

Bingo !!! That's where the issue most likely stemmed from.

Don't worry about your English. Most folks in the US can't write nor
speak it either. Give George Bush credit for that, too. <w>

Uninstall . NET Framework 3.0 from Add/Remove Programs in the Control
Panel. If it can not be uninstalled from there, use this tool :
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...30/611355.aspx

If, when you run the Automated cleanup tool, you get a message that .NET
Framework 3.0 can not be uninstalled, leave the tool open and reboot the
system.
Reinstall .NET 3.0 IF you'd care to, after the reboot.
