Have you tried waiting instead? E.g. instead of overloading your system
once it gets in this state, just queue up a minimal amount of mouse
interrupts (so you know the mouse is not responding) and a Ctrl-Alt-Delete
(so something definite will happen once the system wakes up again.)
FWIW the above procedure works for me on my laptop (W7 X64 run on AMD
Turion) and I have been meaning to ask HP about this but it doesn't happen
very frequently and doesn't last that long when it does.
