I just build up a new PC with Asus mother Board and AMD 64X2 Dual Core
processor. The mother board is setup to have the OS manage the sleeping mode.
When I start the PC and ask to shut it down it works fine. However, if I
start the PC let's go in sleep mode, recover from sleeping mode and try to
shutdown using the shut down function on start button it doesn't shut down
but restart the computer....at that point i have no way to shut down except
with hard button. Any idea what could be the reason?

bebekelis,

It's hard to tell what the problem is without knowing anything about your
system, including not knowing anything about its power settings. Even after
knowing all that, it may still be hard to tell.

To begin troubleshooting this issue, open up the power options setting from
the control panel and select the "Change plan settings" link below your
selected power plan. There, review the settings to confirm that they are set
to produce the behavior you expect. Who knows what the settings are or
should be until you check.

Freddy,

Thanks for your answer. I already check the options on my power settings. It
is setup on the way that supposely when I use the power button or shut down
option on the start menu it shut down the PC....the issue is that it just
restart it.

Check on the Bios and my Asus M2R32-mvp card and it is setup at Suspend Mode
=Auto, means normaly the OS is managing the suspend mode. I check the Bios
version to be sure it is wista compatible...and I have the latest one.

By the way the system go in Sleeping mode well as well as hibernate mode
when selected on the Power option.

Another problem, I don't have the option on the start menu to select the
hibernate mode....

Let's me know if you need anyother information.

This is a known problem on some systems and affects Sleep and Hibernation.
Check the MS Knowledge Base for a possible Hotfix. You also should check
with System/Motherboard maker for info or a Bios update.
