Hi,

I just switched my forest from windows 2003 to windows 2008. Everything is
working fine except for two pcs that are in a workgroup. For various
reasons they can't be joined to the domain. After the upgrade they can
nolonger broswe the network or map a drive to the 2008 server.
The workgroups PCs are fully patched (XP SP3).
What should I be looking for?

Thanks,
Jack

What error do those two PCs show in event viewer or when you try to join it?
Please post an unedited ipconfig /all of the 2008 DC, a working XP, and one
of the non-working XPs.
Also, specifically, are the XPs Home or Pro version?

If IPv6 is on 2008, that is a known issue with communications, but then
again it can be simply as something on the XP as the firewall, or the
firewall on 2008, which is on be default.

The problem was that NetBIOS/TCPIP was disabled on the server's NIC.
I enabled it and things are good now.

Good to hear you got it working, Jack.

Keep in mind, AD does not require NetBIOS to join the domain if you use the
FQDN of the domain name during the join process and not the NetBIOS name.
Although, I prefer to keep NetBIOS enabled to allow network browsing,
printer browsing, as well as that Exchange/Outlook connectivity requires
NetBIOS for certain functions to work.

Once again, good to hear!!
