My computer specs states the PCI Express x16 (1.0) is 150 Watts. Is this
limitation due to the power supply to the 6 pin connector powering the
graphics card or a limitation of the chipset and the buss itself?

In other words am I limited to 150Watt or less video cards and if I want
higher I must upgrade the power supply?

Here is the direct link to the spec sheet:

http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...g_en/about.htm

Under the catagory of Video.

It's a limitation of the physical slot. PCI Express graphics
150 gets 75W from the main power rail and 75 watts from the 6 pin connector.
Normal X16 (not graphics) is limited to 40W.

Good info. Thank you. I should be good then with the 141W video card

My girlfriend (She has a different computer) is also looking to upgrade her
video card. She has a HP Pavilion A6120N. We upgraded her power supply
slightly already from the standard one that came with it when we upgraded
her video card the first time.

I was not able to find any such buss power supply spec such as this in her
computer documentation. We were going to go out and get her an even larger
power supply and hope it is able to power a more advanced video card. Any
idea what real limits on her slots we might be facing? Because if the same
is true of her computer, it could also limit what we really can put into her
computer.

The A6120N has the x16 Graphics slot but most 945G boards leave
out the 6 pin connector (the graphics slot is really meant for stuff like
TV cards) so you might be limited to low end stuff.
