PDA Turning on every minute.

When my Dell Axim X50v with Windows Mobile 5 is plugged into its docking
station into a Windows XP PC with ActiveSync 4.1 it turns itself on a lot.
Almost every minute but not every single minute. It isn't the USB port, I
tried different computers. It is brand new and there aren't any reminders
or anything that cause it to turn on.

Help!

Gerardo

Well, there's a setting to turn it off during periods of inactivity. Go to
the Control Panel and find the Power applet. On the Advanced page of that
applet (probably, I'm looking at a K-Jam here, not an Axim), there should be
a set of things like Turn off device if not used for... for A/C power and
battery power cases. Turning off the A/C power checkbox will probably stop
the device from going to sleep while hooked to USB.

Here's a message I posted earlier this month. You can try it and see if it
helps.

As I recall, it's not so much a hack as a work-around. This is taken from
the www.aximsite.com forum, at this thread:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...ctivesync+hack

1) Start up AS on your x50.
2) Tap the menu tab/soft key and tap "Add Server Source"
3) Configure a server source with a dummy IP address, user id, password and
domain name; these do not have to be real
4) Once configured you should have another sync source show up on your main
AS screen...continue on.
5) Tap the menu soft key again and you should see that the sync schedule
option is no longer greyed out.
6) Change your schedule from a timed automatic start of AS to manual under
both fields
7) If you try to sync now, AS will try to contact your imaginary exchange
server and that will take forever until it times out, so you can now delete
the exchange server from your list of sync sources. Your changes to the sync
schedule will remain and will survive soft resets too.

Actually, as I think about it, I think there is a registry hack to
accomplish the same thing. But I used this method instead.

There's a bunch of other suggestions on this thread to optimize your X50
with WM5. I ended up giving up on it when I couldn't get PocketStreets
working, and went back to 2003SE. I'll wait for the next patch.
