Any thoughts anybody? I'm seeing same problem: lost connections,
"delayed write failed", explorer and other apps hanging for 3 or 4
minutes. Look in the event log and there's lots of event 2021. I've seen
"number of times in last 60 seconds" as high as 1100.
I'm running Vista X64 Ultimate on a quad cpu with 8GB of RAM. The root
cause, according to all the microsoft articles, is slow disk i/o but my
7200 RPM SATA 2 HD can hardly be described as underpowered.
One sure way to trigger the 2021 event is to run Visual Studio in a
virtual machine under vmware with all the source files residing on the
Vista host - run a build and there's the 2021 event. I've never seen the
problem when doing same on a WinXP laptop. I had the same problem
(although in a milder form) on an older WinXP desktop though. Perhaps
vmware is a good way to trigger the problem because all that virtual
networking can probably put a lot more strain on the server than a
physical connection - and perhaps the faster the box, the worse the
strain...
There's a few microsoft KB articles with suggested registry tweaks but
I have no confidence that they apply to Vista, let alone Vista x64...
What worries me is not the fact that the registry values mentioned don't
exist on Vista (they don't exist by default on XP or 2003 either), but
rather that there is no indication of what values make sense for Vista
x64.
Any thoughts greatly welcome...
