Yesterday it happened to me for the first time that I opened my compute
and instead of seeing the familiar desktop I saw a customized one.
message appeared saying that the director where my personal settings ar
saved could not be found and that instead this temporary desktop can b
used but that no changes in it will be saved. I tried to restart th
computer, but the problem just repeated itself. I wanted to update m
computer to windows 7 anyway and had the disk so I did that thinking i
might solve the problem, however to my astonishment the next time
turned on the computer the same problem accord with windows 7. Howeve
after restarting the computer my personal settings did load. I a
wondering what is causing the problem and am afraid that it will repea
it self and maybe even worsen... Does anybody know what might be th
problem,
Thank yo

I immediately suspect malware, but this is too mysterious for me to
understand :-(

Normally I would suggest System Restore or SFC (system file check), but
the first will not work now that you've installed a new OS, and the new
OS should have replaced all of the system files, so SFC would be
redundant. Try it anyway, I guess.
