Hi,

I just installed a whole slew of updates for Vista 32 Bit Home Premium. Now
I cannot access internet with my Zone Alarm suite enabled because windows
claims Mcafee Firewall is also running. I have no currently installed McAfee
components or products. I uninstalled the free versions that came preloaded
on the laptop 2 years ago. How can I disable McAfee firewal when I do not
even have it?

Thanks.

Hey thank you very much...this fixed the McAfee problem...

As a side note for anyone else using Zone Alarm, you need to make sure you
have 100% of avialable Windows updates, including Service Pack 1 and 2 (which
may not register as needed/available updates in Window's Update unless you
have all other updates installed...). If you do not have these and you
upgrade anything else, like ME8 for instance, ZA will sever your internet
access and isolate you....Then you'll need to uninstall ZA, do 100% of
available Windows upgrades, download latest ZA and reinstall...

Thanks again,

Paul

Hello Paul.

No problem, Glad it worked for you and fixed the problem.

Thanks for posting back Paul, it may also assist someone else with a
similar problem.

That's always a nice gesture when we get back a post indicating if the
suggestions were helpful or not.

ME8 ? Is that the 8th edition of Windows ME ?

When Internet Explorer has been upgraded to a higher version then you
need to go back into ZA's allowed programs/executable list, delete the
previous version of IE (iexplore.exe), and add the upgraded iexplore.exe
to the allowed list.

Then again, there's absolutely *no* need to even install ZA in the first
place as the native Vista firewall is fully capable of protecting the
system when used in conjunction with a hardware firewall in the router.

MowGreen,

While this may be true, ZA has kept me virus free with virtually no issues
for about 10 years now, so I tend to go with what works...This was literally
the first issue I've had and it can fairly be blamed on the MS Window's
strange habit of only recognizing certain updates....Most people might
believe that once they have executed an update search and installed all
updates returned they are done, in this case it took 5 update
scans/installs/reboots to get to SP1 even being offered....

I realize the average skill level in here is probably skewed to the norhtern
end of the spectrum, so us *novices* just have to limp aong on what we know...

Thanks again,

Paul F.
