Photos (thumbnails) appear distorted in Windows Vista Explorer

I am running Windows Vista (home) and have an LG Flatiron L226WG 21"
monitor.

When I preview my photos in Windows Explorer using any size (Small,
Medium, Large or Extra Large thumbnails), my photos appear very
distorted. These are all quite normal 2:3 aspect photos I have taken
with my digital camera.

Is there a setting I can change to reduce the distortion and make the
thumbnails more true to the original photos?
