Pin Word Doc shortcut to Start Menu?

How do I pin a Word Doc shortcut to the Start Menu? (I did this on my XP
machine, and I can't remember how I did it.)

I've already pinned a shortcut to the Word.exe file, but I want to be able
to open directly to a particular document.

Thanks.

I don't think you can pin a DOCUMENT shortcut to the Start menu. You can
make a shortcut to the document on your desktop...

Hi Ken,

Create a shortcut to the document, then drag it to the start button.

I'm looking at a working shortcut to a document on the Start Menu on my
notebook, so I know it can be done. I just don't remember how I did it! (In
fact, I have a shortcut to an Excel doc there too...)

Just place a shortcut to the document in your startup folder. The doc will
open using the default program for .doc type files - usually Microsoft
Office (or Open Office if you have that installed).

This drove me up the wall for hours, I had done it once but couldn'
remember how, this is how I managed to do it
right-click the start menu orb and select propertie
click customis
make sure the Documents "Display as a Menu" is checke
make sure that "enable context menus dragging and dropping" is also se
using windows explorer find the doc you want to have at the start men
drag it to the start menu and don't release until you have it on th
Documents link and that has opened to reveal all the documents i
there(hence the display as a link
Now it's a simple case of selecting the file again and dragging it t
the start men
However, it only seems to work with files that are on the hard disk
not on network drives, even if they are mapped. But I have managed tha
with an excel file, but not sure how:confused
