Hi - in sheer gratitude for all the help I've had from forums setting up
my new Vista on my new Dell, can I hand on a tip?
My intention was to transfer over all my old data from my old XP Dell
to my new computer. Just like everyone else.
I got the new one out the box and got it up and running in no time.
They ask you lots of questions about names for the computer, and I was
doing what i should imagine a lot of people do: here was a chance for
new names for everything and new passwords etc etc.
However, this turns out to be an error. When you come to transfer the
old data over, it will be looking to place some portions of it in user
names it recognises. This is particularly true of all my files for all
my old emails. The result was a split operation in my new computer that
- due to a few additional crashes, repeated sends and doubling and
whatnot - actually wound up with three times the data on it than the
previous computer!
So my tip is to name the new computer users with exactly the same names
as on your old computer.
I am sure you could change them later, knowing Windows.
