Is there any way for me to set a sound when Vista enters and Exits
sleep mode? I couldn't find it in the sound options.

You know when it goes to sleep. You set this value up yourself or if you use
a default, you can find out.

Vista does not wake up unless you clicked the mouse or the start button or
you set an option for the Internet card to wake the machine up or there
might be some other artificial reasons.

If you have something to this nature (un unpredictable, unscheduled wake up
of Vista) you may try to set a system sound for *opening a program*. There
is a chance that it might do what you want.

Perhaps there are better ways but I don't know.

My computer only goes to sleep when I close the lid, and it wakes up
when I open the lid (it is a notebook). I would like the sound to
play when I open and close the lid, not for notification reasons, but
for extra geekieness. You see, when my notebook awakes from sleep
mode I have a bunch of misc hardware attached that lights up (LED USB
cables, extra displays) and I think it would be really sweet if my
computer made the transformers sound whenever I open or shut the
laptop lid.

Set the system sound for "Program opened" The default is NONE. Change it to
whatever you want.

There is a chance Vista may have a geeks sound.

You can also generate your own sound file and save it. The format is wma. It
is elementary. Use soundRecorder.exe in Windows\System32. You can sing in
your mic or play your trombone.

Good luck. It is a very noble cause.

Mick Murphy, are you a relative of that famous Mr. Murphy who discovered the
LAW? Are you his descendant? He must have been a very rich man since there
are so many people who quote him every day. He must have collected enormous
royalties. Is he still around?

Whatever the real genealogy, you can file a paternity suit. I am sure you
can get a chunk. You will be a rich man and won't need to thrash you meager
brains around here to earn a few bucks. A lot of people are just sorry for
your hard labor.

Thanks, if I can get it working the way I want I will post a video of
it. I am going to try setting the program opened option, but I don't
have a feeling sleep mode won't trigger the program opened event.

Rick, when Vista wakes up some programs begin to OPEN. This is when your
sounds will start their music. There will be quite a few to make sure.
