Playback of burned CDs

Whether I've ripped and burned my own cds or whether I've paid for Itunes
songs and tried to burn them to cd, only 13 songs playback and then the rest
are stuck like an old vinyl record, even though I haven't "overloaded" the
cd. The songs > 13 won't even get started! What is that all about and how
do I fix it? I am running Vista and this is a new computer as of Sep 2009.
